About Anchor

At Anchor, we are committed to providing safe, high-quality homes and services for our residents across the UK. As England’s largest not-for-profit provider of housing and care for older people, we pride ourselves on delivering excellence in asset management, compliance, and customer satisfaction. We’re seeking an exceptional leader to join our Property Delivery Management team and champion resident and building safety across our diverse portfolio.

The Role

Reporting to the Executive Director of Property & Assets, the Director of Resident & Building Safety will lead our asset compliance, fire, and building safety teams, providing strategic and operational oversight to ensure Anchor meets its high standards for safety, compliance, and service delivery. Leading the transformation of our approach to resident and building safety, you will manage a team of up to 25 colleagues and a budget of £20-30m, driving innovative strategies, overseeing statutory compliance contracts, and fostering a culture of accountability and excellence.

This is a key role, working with property delivery teams to align with Anchor’s business plan, delivering value for money, and ensuring resident satisfaction remains at the heart of our operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and delivery of Anchor’s Compliance and Building Safety Programme, ensuring full compliance with statutory and regulatory obligations (including the Big 6, Fire Reform, and Building Safety Acts).
  • Oversee procurement and management of high-value M&E and compliance contracts, maximising economies of scale and value for money.
  • Develop and implement strategies, policies, and processes that enhance safety, reliability, and service standards within budget.
  • Provide expert guidance to the Executive Leadership Team on financial planning and compliance requirements.
  • Build and empower a high-performing team, fostering a culture of ownership, innovation, and collaboration.
  • Horizon scan for legislative and regulatory changes, ensuring Anchor remains ahead of the curve.
  • Drive customer-centric compliance programmes, embedding resident engagement and satisfaction into decision-making.

What We’re Looking For

Experience: Extensive leadership experience in a complex property-related business, with a proven track record in asset compliance, fire, and building safety. Demonstrable success in managing high-value contracts and leading teams through change.

Knowledge: Deep understanding of social housing and care home environments, including regulatory frameworks (e.g., CQC, Big 6, Fire Reform, Building Safety Acts), procurement, and JCT/NEC contracts.

Skills: Strategic thinker with the ability to translate legislation into actionable plans. Strong commercial acumen, risk management expertise, and a talent for building competent, empowered teams.

Qualifications: Degree-educated (or equivalent experience), ideally with a relevant professional qualification (e.g., CIOB, RICS).

Why Join Us?

This is an opportunity to make a real impact, ensuring the safety and wellbeing of thousands of residents while shaping the future of Anchor’s property and assets strategy. You’ll work in a dynamic, values-driven organisation that rewards innovation, collaboration, and leadership.

If you’re ready to lead with purpose and drive excellence in resident and building safety, we’d love to hear from you.
